Public transport in the far north
Travel by Rail in the Nw Highlands.
While the British railway network extends to Wick and Thurso, there has never been a rail service to NW Sutherland.
Inverness is well served by trains including cross border services. . The direct sleeper service from Euston Station in London - nominated by Lonely Planet as one of the world’s Super Sleeper services - has been significantly upgraded in the past decade..
The nearest railway station to Eddrachilles, however, is Lairg, 49 miles from the hotel. The station is on the Far North Line from Inverness. It is about 2 miles from the centre of Lairg village, at the southern end of Loch Shin, There is no taxi service at Lairg station but on some days there is a connecting bus surface to Scourie village. This works well if a group is gathering at Eddrachilles and those with their own transport can collect those arriving by bus.
Bus Transport across the Far North
There are two buses per day (CityLink) from Inverness to Ullapool, connecting with the ferry service to and from Stornoway Isle of Lewis. However, the only option to travel from Ullapool to Eddrachilles is by taxi.
The Durness Bus Ltd runs scheduled services (in minibuses) across the Far North of Scotland. The 805 runs six days a week from Durness to Inverness via Kinlochbervie, Scourie departing 9.20 am, Lairg, Bonar Bridge, and Ardgay. This departs Inverness at 3.00 pm for the return sevice. There are also services from Durness to Thurso via Tongue and Bettyhill. Booking is essential
Taxi
There is a taxi service in Ullapool that can be booked for transfers to Eddrachilles. .At present there is no licensed local taxi service.
