Seafood
The west coast of Scotland has some of the finest seafood and seafood restaurants in Britain and our North West corner of Sutherland is no exception. While it features every night in dishes on our menu, we are proud to recommend seafood restaurants, cafes and food trucks in our community.
Crofter’s Kitchen has recently been awarded the 2025 Scotsman Scran Award for Best Seafood in Scotland. An outdoor eatery by pretty Scourie beach, a delicious range of seafood (and more) is prepared by Chef-Patron Grant Mercer supplied by ultra local catches including from Kylesku and Badcall Bay. Open Monday to Saturday 12 noon to 7pm. Sublime!
Loch Clash Larder is another seafood plus truck, based on the road to Kinlochbervie (ideal for trips to Oldshoremore or Polin beaches or Sandwood bay. Opens Wednesday or Thursday to Sunday from 1100 to 6.30 pm (check Facebook for current details). Delicious fare (scallops are our favourites).
The Shorehouse restaurant by Tarbert pier (ferry for Handa nature reserve) is a local legend, family business. Opens Monday to Friday 12 noon to 6pm . Adam (grandson of the original owner) now skippers the family fishing boat (see YouTube) which supplies the restaurant each day.
The Kylesku Restaurant with Rooms, seven miles to the south of Eddrachilles focuses on local seafood, including catches landed on the quayside by the hotel. Part of the Highland Coast Hotel chain, reservations are essential and need to be made online in advance.
Cafes for Lunches
In the village of Scourie, two and a half miles north of Eddrachilles Hotel you will find Scourie Lodge B&B and its café, the Woodland Table. This serves simple lunches, generous home-baking and good quality coffees 11.00 am to 3.00 pm each day (except Thursday). Patrons are welcome to wander in the Lodge’s demonstration garden reknown for its floral borders, pseudo palm trees (ferns) vegetables and fruit trees. Woodland Table is also open in the evenings on Tuesday to Saturday for home cooked dinners (see Facebook).
Spar and Bar within the Scourie village campsite serves a range of snacks and pizzas should you fancy a meal on the sandy beach. A fish and chip van is often available in the evenings. Popular with visitors and local residents alike.
The North West Highlands UNESCO Geopark runs the Rockstop visitor’s centre at Unapool about 8 miles from Eddrachilles Hotel travelling south on the A894 (the North Coast 500 route). Monday to Friday this offers light bites in its cafe as well as a well curated geology exhibition.
The Quay House in Kinlochbervie by the harbour is a good option for a cafe meal including fish and chips from the same harbour. It has a lovely gift shop with some local craft items. .Typically opens 10,00 am for breakfast and lunch menu is served from 12 noon Closes 4.00 pm. See Facebook listing for current timings. .
